The blog starts here.
What can I say. It's not that I'm completely resistant to change, because I'm often the one pushing for change. The main reason I've been dragging my feet and the thing that still causes some concern is the issue of privacy. What are the boundaries between sharing personal thoughts and divulging personal information. It's not even just a matter of myself, but also those in my life. What will my opinion be someday when my children decide they want to keep their own blog? I've certainly set a precedent. Is it really so different from my days in high school when I ran a dial-up bulletin board service from my personal computer? Sharing messages, e-mails and files. It was readily available to hundreds of users. I think the difference comes in the scale. Rather than hundreds of people viewing it, this could be viewed by millions.
What inspires people to post their most personal thoughts on the web for everyone to read?
Over and out!

Vanity. That's the main reason people find it important to post their random thoughts on the internet -- the idea that everyone cares about what goes on in your head. This "look at me" syndrome has become the standard by which we live our lives. Everyone wants to be noticed, but not because they did something that is noteworthy, but because they decided to clutter the internet with inane ramblings. If you require proof that vanity is the primary cause, consider this: Blogs used to be called WebLogs until someone removed the "We" from the name...
Remember the days when people put their private feelings into a personal journal or diary, and didn't share them with the world? If you wanted to get to know someone, you actually had to make contact with that person and discuss or debate, give a little of yourself in return, or even convince someone that you are worth talking to. These days, people are encouraged to expose their emotions without regard for who will know them, or what those people may do with this knowledge. Is this the most intelligent course of action?
It is my opinion that this neverending quest for attention only leads to getting the wrong kind of attention. It solicits opinion on sometimes severe mental and emotional disorders from people who are not qualified to work at Burger King, let alone offer insights into complex psychological disturbances.
Don't forget about the hotbed we're providing for sociopathic predators. So much information is disseminated through Blogs that it would be trivial for a pedophile or serial rapist to acquire enough information to entice his/her next victim into a trusting relationship.
So, validate me. Let me be the center of attention. I need to know that I EXIST!!! Just don't misinterpret or misuse the intimacies I have conveyed...'Cause that would be wrong.
